Pledge Description
Women constitute about 40% of the farming population in developing countries, thus education and economic empowerment are very critical for nation-building and food security. ASTRAL dedicates specific activities to aquaculture gender socio-economic, as an Atlantic commitment to women’s empowerment and gender mainstreaming in aquaculture. Promoting women as equal and productive partners, with significant impacts on household nutrition and living standards, is crucial to reach SDG 2 and 5
Pledge Deliverables
One workshop to be carried out in 2022 in Nigeria to support women empowerment in aquaculture. This workshop will support women involvement in aquaculture by promoting their entry into new/emerging markets and profitable enterprises/businesses in EU and non-EU Atlantic countries
