Ocean observation, forecasting and monitoring
- A Digital Atlantic Ocean from pole to pole
CASSIE is an open-source web tool that was build using Google Earth for automatic shoreline detection and analysis based on satellite imagery.
This cloud-based web tool allows quantifying shoreline changes at a very low cost, breaching the knowledge gap in developing countries.
Quantitative assessment of shoreline trends is crucial to evaluate the coastal vulnerability to natural hazards. Data scarcity remains an ongoing challenge as long-term coastal monitoring programs, based on in-situ measurements, are limited to only a few sites around the world. With the development of CASSIE this paradigm has now changed, and long-term shoreline datasets and analysis are possible to perform at any coastal area on Earth.
A set of networking activities, such as online workshops, and material to foster collaboration, knowledge transfer, and methods to tackle coastal threats such as coastal erosion.
